As the EU’s carbon neutrality policies enter a phase of “hard constraints,” Europe’s industrial green transition is accelerating. DeNOx, as the cornerstone of industrial flue gas treatment, is evolving from merely “meeting compliance standards” to achieving “high efficiency, low energy consumption, synergy, and long-term effectiveness.”

As the EU’s carbon neutrality policies enter a phase of “hard constraints,” Europe’s industrial green transition is accelerating. DeNOx, as the cornerstone of industrial flue gas treatment, is evolving from merely “meeting compliance standards” to achieving “high efficiency, low energy consumption, synergy, and long-term effectiveness.” On the occasion of IFAT 2026 in Munich, AIREP Environmental Protection, drawing on European policy requirements and industry pain points, analyzes the five major future trends in industrial DeNOx technology to help global partners explore new paths toward green development.

Analyzing the Five Major Future Trends in Industrial DeNOx Technology
Trend 1: Upgrading High-Temperature DeNOx Technology to Overcome Challenges in Extreme Operating Conditions
Traditional vanadium-titanium-based catalysts tend to deactivate at temperatures above 420°C and have poor resistance to sintering. Iron-based molecular sieve high-temperature deNOx catalysts have become the industry’s preferred choice, as they can operate stably in high-temperature environments ranging from 350°C to 600°C, completely resolving the issue of catalyst failure under high-temperature conditions.
Trend 2: Low Resistance and High Efficiency Become Standard, Integrating NOx Control with Energy Consumption Management
Fan energy consumption accounts for a significant portion of NOx control system energy use, and catalyst structural design directly determines system pressure drop. Through innovative structural design, pressure drop is significantly reduced while ensuring NOx removal efficiency of ≥90%, making the system suitable for space-constrained applications and achieving “compact footprint, high efficiency, and low energy consumption.”
Trend 3: Coordinated Treatment of Multiple Pollutants, Integrating Pollution Reduction and Carbon Reduction
Coordinated treatment technology enables the simultaneous removal of NOₓ and CO through a single reaction system, saving on equipment investment and floor space; the heat released during the CO oxidation reaction can also be recovered and reused to replace auxiliary fuel consumption, achieving two goals at once.
Trend 4: Customized R&D for Specific Applications, Precisely Matching Flue Gas Characteristics
Flue gas characteristics vary significantly across industries: gas turbines face high humidity and accelerated aging, steel production involves high sulfur and dust content, and chemical plants deal with multiple coexisting pollutants. In the future, we will develop specialized catalytic products tailored to core operating conditions such as temperature, composition, and dust content, thereby improving efficiency and reducing risks at the source.
Trend 5: Long Service Life and Sustainability, Aligned with Full Life Cycle Carbon Accounting
The EU’s CBAM carbon accounting covers the entire product life cycle, making catalyst lifespan and solid waste generation critical factors in carbon costs. High-quality catalysts must withstand harmful substances such as sulfur, water vapor, and alkali metals, with a chemical lifespan of ≥24,000 hours and a mechanical lifespan of ≥10 years, thereby reducing replacement frequency and lowering the full life cycle carbon footprint.

AIREP: Meeting New European Industrial DeNOx Requirements Through Technological Innovation

With over a decade of deep industry expertise, AIREP Environmental has consistently prioritized technological innovation. In response to industrial DeNOx needs under Europe’s carbon neutrality goals, the company has developed a comprehensive range of high-performance catalytic products that precisely align with five major technological trends:
● High-Temperature Zeolite DeNOx Catalysts: Designed for operating conditions exceeding 350°C, these catalysts feature an iron-based zeolite core that combines exceptional high-temperature stability with strong resistance to water poisoning, effectively overcoming the challenges of high-temperature deNOx;
● GFC Corrugated DeNOx Catalysts: Featuring an innovative corrugated plate structure, these significantly reduce system pressure drop while balancing high catalytic efficiency with mechanical strength, making them ideal for industrial applications with limited space and strict energy consumption controls;
● CO Catalysts: Characterized by a low ignition temperature and high conversion efficiency, these efficiently oxidize CO into CO₂, enabling synergistic multi-pollutant control with deNOx technologies and allowing for the recovery of reaction heat to achieve energy reuse;
● Gas Turbine SCR Honeycomb DeNOx Catalyst: Custom-designed for the characteristics of gas turbine flue gas, it offers excellent high-temperature activity and resistance to hydrothermal aging, ensuring ultra-low NOₓ emissions even under complex operating conditions.
